Members of the MIPS community have been recognised for their outstanding achievements across a broad range of fields in this year’s Australia Day Honours List.
Of note, our esteemed board member, Ms Merran Kelsall, was awarded an AO for her service to the financial accounting sector, professional organisations and to the community.
Merran is committed to serving organisations that strive to deliver outcomes for members, stakeholders and the public interest. In July 2020, Merran joined the MIPS board, bringing a strong focus on corporate governance, risk management, reporting and strategic thinking.
Formally a Chairman and CEO of the Australian Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AUASB) and Member of the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB), Merran has a portfolio of independent directorships, with over 20 years' experience on numerous boards and committees in the private and public sectors. Her most recent appointment is President and Chairman of the Board at CPA Australia.

Professor Steven Collins (AO) - Registry Director at Australian National Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) and Chief Investigator at NHMRC. Recognised for his distinguished service to medical and health science research, particularly in the field of prion disease.
Professor Mark James Cook (AO) - Chair of Medicine at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Director of Neurology at University of Melbourne. Recognised for his distinguished service to neurological medicine and research through contributions to the treatment of epilepsy.
Professor Edward Strivens (AM) – Board Member for Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation and Adjunct Professor at James Cook University. Recognised for his significant service to geriatric medicine and to professional organisations.
Dr Michael Tedeschi (AM) – General Practitioner at Health Service of the Australian National University, Senior Staff Specialist at Canberra Hospital and Clinical Senior Lecturer at the ANU Medical School. Recognised for significant service to medicine, particularly to people with drug and alcohol dependency.
Dr Barry Dowty (OAM) - Founding member of the Mildura Private Hospital steering committee and life governor of the Mildura Base Hospital. Recognised for his services to medicine in a range of roles.
