The Premium Support Scheme (PSS) is an Australian Government scheme that helps eligible medical practitioners with the costs of their medical indemnity insurance. MIPS administers the scheme on behalf of Medicare Australia.
To apply for a PSS subsidy, complete the Premium Support Scheme Application. If you’re eligible for a subsidy, it’ll be applied as a reduction in your total membership fee payable and details will be outlined on your Member Benefit Statement.
It’s important to be aware that if you're advanced a PSS subsidy, you are required to complete and return to MIPS, a statutory declaration and provide your “actual gross income” within 12 months of the completion of the subsidy period. If you don’t return this form by the due date, you’ll be requested to repay the full amount of PSS subsidy advanced to you.
Further information regarding the PSS is available from the Department of Health and Ageing website. MIPS staff are also available by telephone to talk you through the process, so do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
