MIPS risk education has been developed for all MIPS members. In practice, the legal and risk education principles outlined in these units apply equally to all healthcare practitioners and are designed to minimise practitioners’ clinico-legal and regulatory risk.
What's in this unit?
This unit is designed to focus all members on the fundamental issues of confidentiality and privacy of all health information. The unit investigates the importance of understanding when you can and when you should not release health information to a patient and/or others.
This education will assist all members in daily practice and minimise potential exposure to complaints, claims or investigations concerning inappropriate management of health information. There are a range of practical case studies and videos to complement the presentation.
Each unit takes approximately 1 hour to complete and comprises of a combination of case studies, videos, multiple choice answer questions, reference material and evaluation.
- Discuss the potential clinico-legal and regulatory risks around confidentiality and privacy of health information
- Outline the ethical, legal and code of conduct requirements about health information, confidentiality and privacy
- Implement strategies to minimise and avoid the possibility of inappropriate release of health information.
